The setup begins with the biostar X370gt5 board, which served my friend reliably for more than a year. He noticed his DDR4 was running at 1066MHz on a Ryzen processor. When searching for an XMP profile, it wasn't visible in the BIOS. After updating the BIOS to the latest version, he located the correct setting. The RAM package was rated by G.Skill at 2133MHz. He increased the speed to 2400MHz at 1.35V, benefiting from effective cooling. The system handled demanding CPU and GPU workloads smoothly for tasks like modern warfare simulations and stress tests. After a few days, he powered it back on, but nothing appeared. The fans spun, RGB lights flashed, and the motherboard displayed colors, yet no data showed up. He attempted troubleshooting: swapped RAM sticks, placed the GPU in the lower slot, rechecked power connectors, cleared CMOS, but issues persisted. Recently, he received a Tomahawk B450 Max motherboard and wanted to test it. The socket appeared slightly dirty, though no faults were found beyond minor dust accumulation. He hadn't removed the CPU or cooler since purchase, suggesting the problem stemmed from storage time. He also needed thermal paste, which had run out. What high-performance yet affordable thermal paste should I consider (around $5)? Could dual-bios support resolve this? The CPU he needs is a Ryzen 7 2700X. I'm unsure if the second BIOS version supports it or if the main update fixed compatibility. When removing his AIO, the CPU came loose. No obvious defects were found except for the retention clip, which felt slightly loose after being in place for weeks. The situation might have started before his actions. Please keep the paste flexible going forward; avoid pulling it too hard.

Initially it didn't function properly, so he had to disassemble it for a new motherboard.

Maybe, but likely you'll need a 1st generation chip. There is certainly no guarantee's here. No, This can happen with ZIF sockets. Try to twist the cooler to release the thermal paste before pulling straight up. Usually this doesn't cause any damage, but it's not unheard of.

Do you have a reference for that thermal paste (not from Amazon)? All my components fit on his new motherboard. I don’t own a first-gen chip—how do I get one from AMD? You can do it during this COVID-19 situation. Thanks for the tips on coolers.
