Product: HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-Bit) Hello everyone. My mom's desktop won't turn on properly. It powers up after the cable is connected but fails to boot, showing a 5-beep error and no red lights on the power button or HDD LEDs. I checked the service manual which mentioned a "pre-video memory error." I've tried reseating the memory stick and using different sticks, but the problem continues. Also, the CPU fan runs at full speed until I hold the power button for five seconds to shut it down. I've looked up the issue online and the manual says the power and LED lights should be red, but mine are green. Anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong? Thanks a lot!

I wasn't sure if this would assist, but removing the RAM might alter the beeps. I'll check the manual as well. EDIT: I didn't locate any helpful information there. Could you tell me which document you're referring to and where you found the beep tables?

It might be a motherboard issue. Hp isn't clear about their codes for various models.

When I remove the RAM, both indicators flash red and emit a continuous five-beep sequence. After reinserting it, the lights switch back to green but continue beeping five times in succession. The CPU fan is no longer running at maximum speed. The DVD drive works properly, and the motherboard's small LED remains green. That’s roughly all the details I have.

I understand your worries too. I’ve noticed unstable power supplies can mess up system behavior, yet I can’t verify it myself. I’ve also tried various RAM modules, but they all give the same outcome.

Five short beeps with steady green light. Remove rams → long 5 beeps, red flash. Both indicate success. Disconnect 16-pin chip near rams. Refresh BIOS via ch341A or similar tool. Reprogram and re-solder fixes the issue. No other solution exists.
