I have an ASUS ZenBook running Windows 7. I brought it to a friend, but it stopped working after shutting down. When I turned it back on, it reported missing the operating system. He ran a diagnostic repair, which took all night, but everything worked again. He warned me that if this happens again, it might mean a fake Windows installation. How can I run diagnostics from the bootup? Please help me understand this better!
Hey there, @ steve518 ! What diagnostics were performed on the device? Was it just a chkdsk check? I recommend booting from the Windows installation disk, selecting Repair, then opening the Command Prompt and entering these commands: bootrec.exe /fixmbr bootrec.exe /fixboot bootrec.exe /rebuildcd. After that, simply reboot and hopefully the issue will resolve. You might also try this quick method, which often fixes startup problems on new laptops: unplug power, remove the battery for 15 minutes, then reattach it and wait another 15 minutes before restarting. If this doesn’t help, consider reaching out to the store where you purchased it. Good luck! SuperSoph_WD
