Have you attempted the upgrade installation? We encountered several older machines that wouldn’t boot properly out of the box, requiring upgrades from Vista to 7 and then to 10. They relied on previous driver versions. Unless the CPU lacks support, consider switching to lightweight OSes like Xubuntu or Puppy Linux, which suit older hardware. Just ensure you disable hardware acceleration for streaming sites if you choose these. I’ve experienced this firsthand with an old Asus netbook a few years ago. For more details, see this Dell article on upgrading an Inspiron E1505 to Windows 10.

Nope, Win7 had hard lock. First 30 days with pop-up and after that full-on lock. It's not legit. Legit would be one activated with key. Otherwise you are violating ToS. That would be same as piracy. As per forum rules, anything that would go around set restrictions is no-no. You've tried this? Last Linux I had on WinXP based machine treated drives just like Windows. Battery management was the one not working. You've tested this too?

If the CD includes a part number, you can contact Microsoft to obtain a replacement product key for $40. The part number begins with X15 in this example: https://filestore.community.support.micr...17c33bbbed. You’ll also need to provide proof of purchase, as mentioned.

I don't have a specific source for that. It seems to be a question about whether the information comes from Microsoft or if it's something they've developed after their discontinuation of Windows 7.

Several colleagues from an outsourcing firm that works with Microsoft have been using this service for a while. You can find more details here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...vice-packs The $40 replacement is available only to customers in North America and is known only to experienced tech support staff contracted by Microsoft.
