My MB is an Asus A88X-Pro. I struggle to distinguish between 2.0 and 3.0 ports even when the diagram indicates their positions. Two ports appear to resemble a red USB port, though connecting my 3.0 exterior HD with the provided cable didn’t work. Previously, I connected it to a 2.0 port and Windows suggested using the 3.0 ports instead. Now I often guess which port to use without receiving warnings about better options, possibly losing some files from that HD. Are the USB 3.0 cables different from the 2.0 ones? It seems unlikely since the guide mentions the HD could work with a 2.0 port, but using the 3.0 ports would be more advantageous. I attempted to insert it into the red USB ports but had no success. One of the 3.0 ports indicates it’s meant for charging a phone.

I asked for help because I'm not very familiar with MB settings, except for some basic connections like memory slots and SATA ports. Looking at page 2-34, #6 about the USB 3.0 connector, I don't understand what it means. Should I use certain cables from my power supply to set up the internal connections so the USB 3.0 works? Also, on another page, 1-4, it says a USB charger is only effective with Windows 7, which I have as a dual system with Windows 10, but I'm not sure which USB 3.0 port should be used for this. Sorry, I'm confused about all this.

The blue ports should use USB 3, while the red ports seem to be eSATA and not USB. USB 3 and 2 cables can be identical, but certain USB 3 cables may include a different connection. Refer to the link provided for more details: https://www.google.com/search?q=usb...0j...e&ie=UTF-8. If you encounter problems, check the motherboard vendor support site and ensure you have the latest BIOS, chipset, and USB drivers installed.
