The SSD is configured in RAID mode. These XPS usually come with RAID enabled by default; if not, change it to ACHI. Check the boot settings in the BIOS for more details.

I've faced similar problems with my PC, mainly because both the Intel and Nvidia GPUs were causing issues. After uninstalling the Nvidia driver and blacklisting nouveau, the system started working again. I intentionally turned off the Nvidia card in the OS to prepare for a Windows VM, which might help others. You mentioned past issues with XPS and Ubuntu related to Intel and Nvidia GPUs clashing—those can definitely cause headaches.

I'll attempt it once more. I reused 18.04 and it functioned consistently until I updated the Nvidia drivers.
