Hi, I just bought my new cooler, the Cooler Master Hyper 212. I feel confident about doing some overclocking. My PC is pretty old, but I want it to perform at its best.
Current specs: Core 2 quad 9400, Asus P5G41C-M LX, EVGA GT210, 2x4 Kingston 8GB DDR3 1333, Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212, 250GB SSD, Cougar SL 500W PSU, Deepcool Z5 thermal paste.
My motherboard seems to be a budget model that isn’t great for overclocking, so I’m not planning to buy a new one just yet. However, I want to make the most of what I have. Some people say my motherboard isn’t ideal for overclocking, but I have this nice Hyper 212 cooler.
Is it safe to push my PC’s limits? I’m thinking of boosting my CPU from 2.66GHz to 3.2GHz or higher, and maybe adding some good fans if needed.
I need help with this, especially when using rendering 3D software. Thanks a lot!

Ziegfred Santiago:
is it secure to overclock my pc? i plan to boost my cpu from 2.66ghz to 3.+ghz, or at least 3.2ghz.
if your motherboard supports changing the clock speed then you can try that.
my old desktop uses a Q9400 on a Gigabyte board with an aftermarket cooler.
i managed to get my chip running at 3.8GHz during tests, and it has worked for over 4 years at 3.4GHz.
when you begin testing, use a program like "coretemp" to monitor the temperatures.
the readings will indicate whether it's safe or not.

It's still a decent setup considering its age. A bit more overclocking and adding a GTX750Ti would extend its lifespan.

Hey, could you let me know what model of RAM you're using? Most 4GB DDR3 RAM doesn't seem to fit with this board.
Edit: My question isn't about the main problem. I have the same motherboard and can't find 4GB DDR3 RAM that works on it.
