Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a Lenovo T14 gen 2 Intel that heats up quickly during Cinebench tests. The usual cooling setup isn’t doing enough, so I ended up repurposing a nonworking Thinkpad to add a custom fan and heatsink. The motherboard only has one 5-pin fan connector—black wires only—and the old laptop’s fan is also 5-pin but with a slightly different connector size. I’m wondering if the connectors from older models are compatible. Could I just connect both fans to the same header, using ground and PWM together?

Have you considered switching the thermal paste? It’s simple to locate VCC and ground using a low-voltage test, but the rest is tricky. It seems there might be two grounds—one for VCC and another for sensing or control.

I switched to the new Arctic Silver 5, which made a slight improvement, though thermal throttling remained rapid. On the previous setup, one wire connected to a temperature sensor near the heatsink.
