You just got your new laptop and after finishing the Windows install, you noticed the sound wasn’t working. You thought it was a driver problem and downloaded one from Asus’ site, but it didn’t fix the issue. Later, you tried a driver installation tool that finally worked—but it brought in lots of malware and Trojans. You decided to reinstall Windows again and everything functioned except the audio.
Someone, could you help? I’m really stuck and don’t know where to start. Their drivers on the website aren’t working, and the mousepad doesn’t have a numpad either—possibly another driver issue. Would anyone be able to assist? Also, I’m pretty sure the laptop should have a numpad on the mousepad, which seems missing too. Thanks in advance for any help or even a small tip to cover the costs.
Normally the standard Windows drivers function properly; I assume that's not the case after installing Windows. If you navigate to Settings > System and check the 'Output' section at the top, are there any details displayed? Is your volume increased? Is anything coming through the headphone or combo jack by accident? Have you tested using headphones to hear sound from the jack instead of the built-in speakers? Generally, laptops come with the necessary drivers pre-installed, so they should work out of the box. However, since you performed a fresh installation—especially with a brand new laptop—the Asus factory drivers were likely removed. When you say the Asus drivers fail to install, do you mean they don't install at all, or that sound still doesn't play?
. The installation appears to complete but doesn't function properly. No audio or microphone settings are set in the input. I visited the ASUS support page for the laptop, downloaded the audio driver there, but it didn't work either. Hang on, I'll share a picture of the Device Manager.

attempted to look up the Intel High Definition Audio driver update but failed. I’m not sure what’s going on, but it seems like a driver problem. The software I tried worked temporarily, though I installed some malware on top. I’m hoping this thread gives me results and am ready to pay 10 USD for someone who can fix it. It’s a fresh install, so I’m okay with letting someone control it via TeamViewer. It’s late, so I’ll probably sleep in about an hour.
The Intel HD Audio driver needed to function properly was tied to using the Intel iGPU for the HDMI/USB-C output. It seems the 'TI Smart Amplifier Driver for Speakers' in devmgr might be the right solution. Be cautious with third-party driver software and check your device settings in Control Panel under sound to confirm it's set correctly.
I attempted to link a pair of Bluetooth earphones and they functioned perfectly for both sound and voice input, leaving me puzzled about the possible reasons beyond an incorrect driver.
Certainly a problem with the driver if no device appears in Control Panel or Windows Sound settings. Which version did you install? From the link provided: https://rog.asus.com/us/supportonly/gu60...desk_bios/, check the audio section, then click 'show all downloads.' You should see the 'Realtek Audio' driver (V6.0.9802.1). This isn’t just the Codec Console App; it can also help locate the correct driver. There’s also the Dolby Atmos Driver (V10.423.934.46) under Utilities, and the ASUS System Control Interface v3 in the same section. Usually I steer clear of manufacturer software since it can feel intrusive.
Thanks for your assistance. Regarding your second question, the G165LP does not have a dedicated numpad in its touchpad design.
I successfully got it to function! I updated it using the MyMasus app
