I've experimented with Skyrim modding before, but it didn't go well for me. I'm looking for recommendations based on a setup similar to mine. I want around 40 frames per second for smooth visuals and a good lore integration. The game will run at 1440p, so keep that in mind. My hardware includes an Intel i5 4670k (not overclocked), an AMD R9 290 with Tri-X graphics, 8GB of G.skill RAM, a 1600 RAM DDR3 system, and a 250GB Samsung Evo SSD. FOR THE LOVE OF TALOS PLEASE HELP ME!

I noticed gophers leading the way, but I need specifics on which mods you're focusing on for your target selection.

Using my FX 8320 with an R9 290 gives me 40-60 FPS. I installed the complete RealVision ENB package. Check nexusmods for the RealVision ENB mod, choose the most popular one. The guide there explains the download steps in detail—be sure to follow it carefully, as it may take about 2-3 hours and you don’t want to miss any details.

I’m a seasoned modder and author with a wealth of experience. Generally, any mod should function smoothly on your system, though certain ENBs can significantly impact performance. Here are some recommendations: 1) Texture enhancements (such as HD2k, Amidianborn Book of Silence, or Skyrim Mesh Improvement Mod) usually perform well; opt for the mid-range resolution setting to boost FPS without noticeable loss in gameplay. For instance, a retextured version of Skyrim HD 2k looks just as good at 1024 versus 2048. 2) ENBs are plentiful and easy to install after a few tries—many tutorials are available online. Performance improvements won’t be drastic, but finding the right one through testing is key. Right now I’m using the Seasons of Skyrim ENB without SSAO, achieving around 50 FPS at 770. Popular choices include Seasons of Skyrim ENB, SharpShooters ENB, RealVision ENB, and Project ENB 3. 3) Too many heavily scripted mods can slow things down, causing crashes and errors. If you encounter a CTD (crash to desktop) after the Bethesda logo, don’t lose hope—download BOSS from developers.github.io/> and try it again. It may not always resolve instantly, but it often does. 4) If you see a crash immediately after the Bethesda logo, it’s usually a temporary glitch. Downloading the Boss Developer site and running it can help organize load order and fix issues. While this process requires some effort, the end result is rewarding—you’ll enjoy playing Skyrim for years.

You can skip the official pack if you don’t have it installed. Downloading texture mods is a better option for customization.

I’d prefer Skyrim HD 2k textures since they improve the visuals beyond just boosting the resolution. I also overlooked installing the unofficial patches for Skyrim, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn from the Nexus. These updates resolve numerous bugs and are definitely essential.

Plus one for the patches. Also, give this set a shot—it doesn’t slow things down much and it really looks great. Linkage
