You're facing a tough situation with your old MacBook. Since you don't have access to the original Mac, the .dmg file is your best chance. You'll need to create a bootable USB drive using tools like Rufus or Windows USB/DVD Creator. Make sure to format it as a Windows installation media so you can follow the steps for installing OS X Lion. If internet recovery fails, try connecting the USB to another Mac or computer for assistance.

I tried a few times but the selection boot device isn't responding, and even the internal drives aren't showing up in the menu.

Employ the MacDrive program to handle .DMG files on Windows. After processing, utilize it to write or restore the .dmg onto a USB drive. Format the device as an HFS+ GUID partition within MacDrive.

Refers to pausing 'option' during startup. Only operating systems are displayed; non-functional devices remain hidden.

I'm starting with the Transmac method first. If that fails, I'll switch to the MacDrive approach—just plug the USB image into your Mac and reboot while holding Option to select it.
