I've been using Fraps for a while and have a solid machine that lets me run games like Fallout New Vegas at high frame rates. However, once I start recording it becomes too demanding and I struggle to lower the settings for a smooth video. If you're looking for an alternative recording tool, consider options like OBS Studio or Streamlabs, which offer better performance and flexibility for streaming.

Try Bandicam, your friend recommends it over fraps (I haven't tried it yet), why not give it a go?

You have a GTX 970, but you're not using Shadowplay because it's not compatible with that graphics card.

MSI AB.... Just saying and that's my Phenom II + 580 Vsync at 75hz.. it drops frames here and there due to CPU and the Unreal engine. Encode settings were crazy high 270,000 bit rate lol.

I haven't experimented with shadowplay yet, but I doubt it meets my requirements for a smooth playthrough. I'll look into it.

What codecs are available for Dxtory? I'm having trouble getting a steady 50 FPS recording at 2560x1440 resolution. I have plenty of storage (3TB HDD), but I want to maintain good frame rates. Using YUV422 BT.709 atm, any recommendations?

Same details as him, but at 1080p with around 60 frames per second.
