Hello, everyone, thank you for your assistance ahead of time! My previous graphics card, the 7870 Ghz edition, began malfunctioning. It displayed a picture initially, but whenever I tried to install drivers, the screen would turn black. After using the DVD that came with it and then installing fresh drivers via the Display driver uninstaller, nothing changed. I couldn't even stream YouTube smoothly due to stuttering. Because my old machine has been a source of frustration since its purchase, I opted not to invest much more and bought a used GPU instead.
I managed to get a decent MSI dual fan 1060 with 6 GB from a friend who guaranteed it would work and included a one-year warranty. I installed it and was thrilled when the display returned. I was able to play Overwatch again, which was great! However, my computer would restart with strange graphics. After rebooting, I ran a benchmark (Heaven) that initially crashed, then gave me an error about the display adapter resolver failing. I ignored it and restarted, waited a few minutes, and it worked perfectly afterward.
I played Overwatch again, but it crashed and froze. I rebooted and tried playing again. This time everything functioned smoothly. I played a quick match and lost, then started a competitive game. As soon as I found a match, my screen went completely black, indicating the monitor was off. I restarted the PC, checked the motherboard, and noticed some error codes. I wasn’t sure what they meant. I shared photos of the board and uploaded a video to YouTube (link provided) for further help.
I apologize for not uploading a longer video, as it exceeds 20 MB. Thank you all for your support!
It might be due to your GPU, especially if your PC is outdated and similar issues arise with a newer GPU. Could you share your specifications and the age of your computer? Also, did you use DDU? This should help avoid driver conflicts. From your first screenshot, it seems you're running on Windows NT—what do you mean by that? I hope not!
CPU model: Fx 8350 | Cooler: AMD stock CPU cooler | Board: MSI 990FXA-GD80 | RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 | Graphics: SAPPHIRE HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB GDDR5 (old version) / MSI 1060 6GB (new version) | Storage: 1 TB Samsung | Case: CM Elite 310 | Monitor: Acer E2050S | Power supply: Cooler Master GX 650W v2
It seems like the issue might relate to CPU temperature or RAM. Try running memtest86 to check. A black screen often means the CPU is stuck, while shutdowns usually happen when overheating occurs. RAM problems tend to appear in specific patterns, such as after a short time after startup, due to loading sequences. A CPU failure typically triggers at the thermal threshold.
Several MSI models show CPU temperatures during the boot process, which likely clarifies the countdown you observed. On an older system like the 790FX-GD70, this feature was available in the BIOS for monitoring CPU heat. For a different GPU, I’d check its behavior to determine if it’s causing the problem. Regarding the squeaking sound in the video, it could be a fan noise or a mechanical issue.
99 generally indicates everything is functioning well and the post-installation checks passed. The fluctuating CPU temperatures you notice are normal. I still think the GPU might be the issue, but it could also relate to a problem with the PCI-E connector in its slot. Test the card in another slot and ensure the slot is clean—use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to gently wipe any debris. Make sure the alcohol evaporates completely before plugging the machine back on and reinserting the card. Additionally, consider checking for RAM-related problems.
No prob - Be sure to clean out the slot when you have a chance to and make sure when you do, you remove power from the machine (Unplug from the wall). Once done make sure all the fumes are gone before applying power again. If it does this again try a different PCI-E slot and see what it does. Good luck!
