Need assistance with picking parts
Currently, I’m running an i5 7600K with four cores and facing bottleneck problems. I’m trying to figure out the cause but haven’t identified it yet, so I’m planning a fresh setup. I’m only open to swapping parts if necessary. I’m comfortable replacing the ASRock Z270 Extreme 4, Intel i5 7600K, or the Kaby Lake 3.8GHz processor if needed. I’m also considering G.Skill Ripjaws 16 GB RAM and DDR4. Anything works would be great! Thanks!
It's not that I'm over intel, but if something is similiar in price but a bigger improvement, I'm cool with switching over. But I have no idea what an m.2 NVMe drive is. never heard of anything like that.
M.2 drives can have much higher transfer speeds than a regular sata ssd. But if you already have a normal sata ssd don't bother. The performance gains you get don't matter for gaming and general work only for certain usecases. As stu_bear suggested a ryzen 3600 + b450 would be a great upgrade performance and cost wise.
PCPartPicker list includes the components I recommend. Switching from mid-range DDR4 to high-end isn't worth the boost in speed. I’d suggest adding a 500GB M.2 SSD for about $80 to speed up boot times, though it doesn’t significantly improve performance—just be prepared to wait. You might also consider upgrading your RAM to at least 2666MHz for a noticeable performance increase.
