I was taking apart my old computer when removing the CPU cooler caused the CPU to fall out, leaving six pins on the motherboard. You might want to look for methods to safely extract those pins without damaging them. Since you didn’t use the board or CPU again, consider checking if a local refurbishment service can salvage the motherboard.

Have you released the latch? The pins need to be fully disengaged for them to come off.
