I assembled my own PC and it’s only responding when I press the power button. I’ve connected it to both a regular outlet and a surge protector, but it still won’t turn on. What might be causing this?

There seems to be a link between the power supply and the case. The PSU is making noise because its protection is activating, indicating possible wiring issues—often near the case.

Check the mainboard and power supply details first. To diagnose issues, remove the 24-pin connector from the motherboard and perform a paperclip test to confirm the PSU is functioning. Any further steps should reference the information provided earlier.

There are numerous options. I’d suggest breaking it down and starting over. It seems like there might be a misunderstanding. With no additional details, our choices are limited.

Update! The PC isn't starting, but the CPU fan activates even without power connected. Could the issue lie with a faulty cable or connector? Also, you mentioned uncertainty about whether these are CPU cables and their placement on the motherboard.

It seems the motherboard might be dead. There could be a minor short circuit in the VRM.

I assume the CPU fan continues to rotate, though the situation seems uncertain.
