I built my first gaming PC using an AMD Athlon 3000G, an 8GB DDR4-3000 dual channel setup, MSI B450M PRO-VDH Corsair VS 450W, Deepcool MATREXX 30, Seagate Firecuda drive. I chose a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and still experienced lag. I’m new to PCs and unsure what upgrades are needed or if there were settings issues.

I understand the distinction between lag and FPS drops. Could you share your current FPS and the specific game you're playing?

I'm gaming Fortnite and when I move quickly, the screen jumps between frames. Sometimes it pauses for about 20 frames, especially on a 144 Hz monitor.

People share their thoughts to make it clear. For your problem, have you connected your monitor cable to the GPU or motherboard? Ensure it’s plugged into the GPU.

my configurations are set to low with 3D rendering at 60, and i'm using a large monitor via HDMI. it's connected directly to the GPU.

You're already running smoothly at 60 FPS on a 144Hz monitor, which is great. To further enhance your setup, consider upgrading your GPU if it's not powerful enough for higher frame rates. Also, ensure your CPU remains stable and doesn’t need overclocking unless you plan to push it further.

when using a high refresh rate but not reaching the desired target, consider reducing your monitor's refresh rate. for upgrades, a powerful CPU would be ideal. if budget is limited, the R5 3600 could work well. going beyond may cause your GPU to become a bottleneck.

I'm receiving 16 gigabytes of RAM and I'm using two 8GB DDR4 slots for streaming.
