Hey there! I just started building my first rig and am still learning about overclocking. I want to boost my i7-9700k to around 4.8 or 4.9 GHz, but I’m not sure which BIOS settings to adjust. My motherboard is an MSI Z390 Gaming Plus with 16 GB Corsair LPX Vengeance 3000 MHz DDR4 RAM and XMP enabled. I don’t expect any cooling problems. For testing stability after the overclock, what software should I use? Thanks a lot!

I just tried my first CPU overclock on an i7-9700k and managed to keep it stable at 5.0GHz using adaptive voltages. I don’t think I have enough knowledge or experience to share too much about this process, compared to all the experts out there. So I’ll let them handle that part.

I do know some stress tests you could try, and what worked well for me to verify my overclock’s stability.

It is highly recommended that you send back that MB if you plan on overclocking or you will absolutely run into issues. That is a LOW END Z390 motherboard with very poor VRMS that will not handle the OC. Don't even think about OCing on that MB period.

On this list below pick something in the green section, any of the AORUS Z390 MB's are good.

My graphics card is an MSI 2070 RTX 8GB Gaming Z. Could using a different brand MOBO affect its performance?

I changed my MSI Z390 to an Aorus Z390 Pro Wi-Fi and upgraded the case for better airflow. I also moved the AIO to a Thermaltake 240 to improve cooling. Now I need to take further actions to reach overclocking at 4.8 ghz on all cores.
