Need assistance with overclocking?
Hi! I’d love some advice on my overclocking plans. I have these specs: Intel Core i5-9600K, 3.7 GHz, six cores, LGA1151 socket, ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E gaming board with LED lighting, USB 3.1 Gen 1, MSI motherboard, GeForce RTX 2060, 6GB GDDR6, Silver/Black cooler, Hyper 212 Black Edition, and a 970 EVO Plus SSD. I’m trying to push the clock from 9600k to around 5.0 GHz. I’ve only managed stable overclocking at 4.8 GHz with a core voltage of 1.3V. Now I’m considering going higher—like 1.425V—but that’s pushing things into risky territory for longevity. Why does the chip require such high voltage to maintain stability at 5.0 GHz?
The temperature you're experiencing isn't the focus here. It's about the current operating range of the unit. A Hyper 212 works well as an aftermarket cooler but isn't intended for overclocking.
Operating between 30-40 degrees idle and about 60 under heavy use. I purchased a Kraken x63 to swap in for the hyper 212, but I'm unsure if it will resolve the core voltage issue.
