If you had Microsoft Office on your old laptop, you could still open Microsoft Word on your new desktop by using an external hard drive connected to it. The old laptop's hard drive isn't the boot drive, so it should work as a storage device.

You probably shouldn't, unless you have the installation files again.

You wouldn't be able to use it without purchasing a new license.

Typically setting up a new HDD boot involves drivers and other considerations. Web services like Google Drive and iCloud offer reliable free options.

If you don’t have the media software, Microsoft might offer a download on their website. There’s a guide available on PCWorld that explains how to locate your product key. Once you’ve removed the old version from your older computer, reinstall it on the new one using the key—this should resolve the issue. I’ve also attached Microsoft’s official support page with contact details for product key problems. Let me know if this helps! http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2279109
