I share most of your views on the Intel/AMD debate. I don’t have a strong attachment to either brand, nor do I support Apple—both depend heavily on labor in Southeast Asia, which I find concerning. The move of Intel’s fabrication plants to the US is definitely a positive development. Seeing that happen would be a clear benefit for society. Staying focused, I’ll likely clean up my iMac once the new kit arrives. With older 2012 models, they didn’t have secure enclosures, so I’m not very hopeful about quieter operation afterward. The only fan is a noisy one that stays running constantly. Turning it off should lower temperatures by 10-15°C, but the fan will still be active. If I turn it off, the CPU should run cooler, though the fan won’t stop. Swapping the HDD for a 2.5" SSD would help, but the system still needs that fan to function. I have several spare 2.5" SSDs, but I’m wondering if it might be better to remove the second drive entirely and upgrade to a larger NVMe or Apple SSD instead. IF there’s no way to disable turbo—do you know how to adjust the fan speed manually?

So here's the thing. I have the latest model Intel Based MacBook Pro. But the fan really only kicks on when Im doing some light gaming. Web browsing and such it rarely kicks on. Mind you its driving a 1440p ultrawide and a 1080p Ultrawide monitor as well. I would guess that it has the same or similar crappy blower style fan. I haven't used any software and I just checked an there is one app that was $9.99 that said something about monitor temps but Im not sure if it will control your fans. I found a utility called SensorX thats $2.99, but reviews are kinda meh. It really comes down to how much money you want to attempt to throw at the problem. Personally if I managed to open that machine, Id try to replace the thermal compound with something better and just give the fan a really really really good cleaning and see what happens. Ive seen new thermal compound work miracles. Maybe try starting the machine while its open to see if the fan is working correctly. Another idea is to maybe buy a small table top fan and point it at the machine.

Most apple gadgets seem like nice add-ons on top of great screens. I don’t like MacOS or its closed components. The look doesn’t really appeal to me either. Their screens are among the best available, but they tend to overheat. LEDs don’t work like magic and produce a lot of warmth. Still, Apple has its merits—especially when you’re limited to just Linux, MacOS, and Windows. For privacy, MacOS stands out compared to the other two. But the app ecosystem isn’t reliable; I’m okay with paying for apps as long as I don’t trust them.

Have you thought about selling the device? Even outdated Macs can generate income. Particularly if you're not satisfied with its performance.

It’s not really about that. Selling something you received as a gift isn’t very considerate, in my opinion. I’m not suggesting I’m upset with it. For anything I own, I hope it performs at its peak. I truly mean it. Even if it wasn’t the model I’d chosen for myself, its 5k display makes it a solid choice for media use in my office—watching YouTube and listening to music. My aim isn’t just to complain; I want to improve it. I’d like it to run smoothly so the fan doesn’t keep spinning the HDD constantly. It’s odd that the most powerful, efficient PC in my home is a $2k+ iMac, but I still want it to function properly.
