Need assistance with local network speed improvements?
Disabled EEE and power saving options didn’t work as expected. I followed the steps from the guide at techwiser.com, but everything reset to automatic. The connection shows 10mbps, which is confusing since I’m unsure how it’s supposed to reach gigabit speed.
I own a computer that connects via a very inexpensive cable. It frequently changes its speed between 100mbit and gigabit. This might be a poor or damaged connection between a switch and one of the computers—perhaps you didn’t notice using the better cable by chance. Edit: to address the question more clearly, you can’t manually adjust the speed; the network card automatically chooses the appropriate setting. With a Cat5e cable and gigabit NICs on a gigabit switch, it should operate at gigabit speed.
