Hi, I’ve faced a really puzzling and annoying issue. My laptop worked well until about a month ago when the screen went dark and the GPU stopped functioning. I think the problem lies with the hardware or BIOS software. The steps I tried to recreate it were:
- Turn off and uninstall the igpu driver from Windows, leaving only the GPU enabled in BIOS.
- Restart the laptop using AC power after a while.
- Log into Windows, which works with the GPU for a short time.
- The screen goes black, sounds cut off, and the machine becomes unresponsive. The power button stays lit white.
- Forced a cold shutdown by holding the power button.
- Disconnected AC power and booted into BIOS using the battery.
- Once in BIOS, the screen appears, then I plugged back in AC power.
- The screen goes black again.
- If I booted to Windows from the battery, Device Manager shows the RTX 2060 is fine.

I’ve thought about overheating, but it only reaches around 60°C before shutting down. The specs are an I7-10750H with the RTX 2060 in Windows 11 Home HP OMEN 15-ek0xxx.
I’ve also tried fully draining and recharging the battery, but it didn’t help.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I’d like to explore other options before considering a new motherboard or buying a replacement. Thanks.

Thank you for the idea, but I've already attempted that and the problem goes beyond Windows. It also happens when I just boot into BIOS.

Have you looked for BIOS updates on HP’s site? Given your power connection problems, it might also be linked to the battery and charging board—worth testing without the battery or extra components.
