I experienced a significant security incident last year where attackers gained control of devices, accessed accounts, and exposed my IP and passwords. I’m determined not to repeat that mistake. I’m planning to launch a completely new network in a month and will start fresh. I understand the fundamentals like firewall, IDS/IPS, and honeypot, as well as splitting the network into three main IoT guest segments. My knowledge comes mainly from YouTube tutorials. I’ll be setting up UDM Pro again with a new internet connection soon. Could anyone share expert advice on configuring firewall rules to make the network much more secure? I really want to avoid going through that situation again.

The term "they" refers to potential threats that originate from various sources. Even with modern home routers, the integrated firewalls provide adequate protection against most attacks. A significant breach would require you to be a high-value target. Today, most incidents start inside networks—through IoT devices or malicious software downloaded via phishing. These can come from outside your network and arrive at your home. Addressing this isn't about building barriers, but about educating users to improve habits. For guidance on setting up VLANs and other UniFi features, check the provided videos. By default, the UDM-Pro offers a solid firewall, especially when IDS/IPS is enabled. For more advanced control and powerful tools, consider pfSense or Suricata.
