I've been searching this topic on various sites and still can't find a solid solution. I assembled this system for gaming at 4K with high performance and VR support. It struggles with most titles, showing lag during scene loads and unstable frame rates. Initially thought it was the CPU, then the graphics card, but I'm still unsure which component needs fixing. Could anyone help identify the issue? My setup includes: processor – 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11700F, 64GB DDR4 RAM at 3600MHz, graphics – AMD Radeon 7800X (version 24.3.1), 2.5TB SSD, running Windows 11 Pro version 23H2.

Which games are you attempting to play? The 7800XT is a solid card, but running most recent titles at full 4K resolution won't work without higher settings. For closer performance you'd need a 7900XTX, 4080, or 4090. With 4K you might still manage but you'll probably have to reduce graphics quality. Have you experimented with 2K resolution, disabled ray tracing, or applied AMD's FSR 3.0? I'll assume the main limitation is your processor if performance remains poor. If the lag persists, it could point to other factors beyond your hardware specs. Are all connections properly seated in your GPU and motherboard—both ATX and 24-pin? Also, does your SSD use SATA or M.2? Providing more details would be useful. Tools like Speccy, CPUZ, and GPU-Z can give deeper insights. What temperature readings do you see when this happens?

Welcome to the forums! That CPU is kinda weak, but it's not TRASH. I run a 3080Ti/8700k machine which does 4k60 decently, though super modern games do require I drop some settings a bit. What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

It even slows down at 1080 with a red dead redemption, which doesn’t make sense. I didn’t have this problem before.

I’ve tried every possible fix, even going to Best Buy. The Geek squad will take a look. I didn’t want to visit multiple repair shops, and no one can tell me what’s wrong.

It seems there might be some confusion. I’m here to help, but it looks like you’re dealing with a technical issue that could affect performance. Have you considered checking for malware or running a CMOS reset? I’d suggest using Windows Defender for a virus scan and adjusting your CMOS settings if needed. The process might vary depending on your motherboard, so sharing more details would help.

What are your current temperatures during gameplay? Are your CPU speeds consistently above 4.8GHz? Has your RAM been confirmed to operate at maximum capacity?

4k needs a high-speed storage solution, such as an M.2 NVMe SSD. The 2.5 TB SSD you mentioned feels slow during loading, which is typical for slower drives.

All systems operate at maximum efficiency. The computer maintains stable temperatures even during heavy use. No throttling is detected via hwinfo. Xmp profile remains active.
