I'm evaluating options for your PC build and need advice on whether to upgrade to 3600MHz RAM. The decision isn't clear from what I see, so I'm weighing whether 3200MHz or 3600MHz would be better for your needs. I'm also considering possible changes to other components, like swapping the CPU or graphics card, and looking for alternatives that might improve performance.

Understanding the main purpose of this setup would be extremely useful for seeking build guidance. For gaming, browsing, or light streaming or video editing, the key points are:

CPU: The difference is minimal when playing on a 3800X compared to models like the 3600 or 3600X. Right now, gaming doesn<|pad|>'s don’t fully utilize all eight cores. While the higher boost frequency offers only slight gains, it probably isn’t worth the extra cost. Consider investing in a better GPU instead.

MOBO: Your build lacks any PCI-E Gen 4 parts beyond the motherboard. The X570 won’t add value unless you’re planning manual overclocking, which it doesn’t seem necessary for. Opting for a B450 chipset would be more economical, especially with a Ryzen 5. This could also free up funds for a superior GPU.

Memory: Most experts agree 32GB is excessive for a gaming rig today. 16GB should suffice. Fast RAM pairs well with Ryzen, and 3200MHz is plenty fast. If you’re okay with 3600 speed RAM, it’s a reasonable choice. For the best performance, consider 16GB at 3200MHz—G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB is a solid option.

Bottom line: GPU is weak, CPU is average, and memory is more than enough. Save on the MOBO, CPU, and RAM to upgrade your GPU instead.

Thanks for the clarification. Would you need to modify the BIOS for the B450-F? Is it ready to use out of the box with a 3000, or does it require some adjustments? Also, since this build is intended for a workstation and not gaming, I opted for a less powerful GPU and a stronger CPU.

The extra IPC and extra hyper threaded cores are available. For RAM the Trident Z is Samsung B die, making optimization easier. Just using 16GB at 3200 will perform similarly to 18GB at 3600.

The packaging would indicate compatibility with Ryzen 3000. If the label appears on the box, it’s probably aligned with the latest BIOS for 3000 support. However, if the focus is on intensive CPU work, consider upgrading to Ryzen 3700X or 3800X depending on your workload (still works on B450, but an X570 would be beneficial). For better graphics performance, a slightly upgraded GPU would help, though this also varies by your needs.
