Hey there, I'm starting this project for the first time and I'm torn between two options. I need a build that can handle upcoming next-gen consoles. Build one uses a Ryzen 5 3600X with an RX 5600 XT, while build two features a Ryzen 7 3700X paired with an 1660 Super. What should I go with?

You're looking for a simple computer that can handle basic tasks, like playing games or browsing. If you don't have any special needs, a 6-year-old PC works fine. For better performance, especially with games, get an 8-core CPU and a good graphics card.

r 5 3600 (non-x, x is just factory-only, not practical) and a 5600xt/5700

In my country, the prices of 3600x and non-X items are very close, rarely exceeding 15$. A 6c/12t should cover the next six years.

Consensus reached. For a gaming PC, the R5 3600 (non X) stands out as the top pick, with the rest of your budget allocated to the highest-quality graphics card.

Unless you can get a 3600X for the same price as a 3600 (like I did), there's no good reason to buy the 3600X. You might as well spend the $15 on a cheap Wish dragon dildo or something (not buying advice). And yes, 6c/12t should be good for a while. And in the event that you need to get more cores, you could switch CPUs in minutes.

I think so, though six years feels like a long duration. It also relies on the resolution and refresh rate of your monitor. A 1080p at 60Hz works well, but 1440p at 144Hz will push your GPU to its limits. For 1440p/144Hz, I’d recommend a minimum of 5700iPS.

No, it's not necessary to overpay for a PSU. Buying it at a lower price is fine and can save you money without affecting performance.

Looking ahead six years? The future is unclear, which means we can't predict it well. However, you can still upgrade with a good AM4 motherboard, so it shouldn't cause major issues. This isn't ideal, but it's not the worst choice you can make when building a PC.

Your resolution is 1080 pixels wide by 60 frames per second.
