Hey, you're in a spot where internet isn't available, but an ADSL2+ exchange is now set up. Telstra says you can choose between ADSL1 or ADSL2+, though it's about 5km away. If you played CSGO, you'd likely notice a big difference in speed and latency depending on the connection type.

ADSL2 is clearly superior to ADSL alone. If possible, choose ADSL2. Only your ISP can tell you about your ping; you can check it once you have the connection, otherwise it remains an estimate.

ADSL1 limits reach at 1.5Mbps-8Mbps (150-800KB/s). Ping varies based on the server you connect to in CSGO. Local connections perform best—Adelaide to Adelaide is around 30ms, while Adelaide to Sydney/Melbourne takes 45-65ms. I’d say... some ISPs route traffic through other cities, causing pings to jump to Melbourne levels (40-50ms) instead of my usual local range (30-35ms).

The distance to the exchange impacts ping, especially if you're mostly playing on Sydney servers.

I don't recall that clearly... Your message is local, I'd anticipate 5-15ms there. (Back in 2005 I had my ISP Internode at 11ms (to ISP). It should be under 20ms locally.) For Adelaide to QLD it was around 70-90ms depending on the server I selected during testing. You're much closer. Call it...up to 15ms locally,...45-60ms in QLD to Sydney (just guessing), 60-75ms maybe...±10ms

It's really good to hear that! Your concern about ping at that distance is valid—someone reading about poor satellite performance at 5km seems like a real worry.

Probably because Telstra doesn’t maintain copper lines much beyond basic connections and just ties them together occasionally, your upload speed can drop significantly—especially over poor copper. You might actually get much slower than the max 100KB/s, or even notice slower speeds. For regular back-and-forth with the server, a steady 40–100KB/s is usually needed. Games like CSGO can vary, sometimes only using 15–30KB/s depending on other factors. If you have a connection with 40–60KB/s upload, ping fluctuations might still keep you within acceptable limits, especially with a strong connection at around 5km (not the worst copper). I’ve seen BF4 run smoothly at 290KB/s down and 35KB/s up before, with pings around 90–120ms to local servers. BF4 requires 60–100KB/s upload, so it’s doable if you’re on a solid link.
