You're facing issues with setting up the TP-Link TL-WN823N. The device isn't installing correctly after several attempts. You've already tried removing old drivers, disabling antivirus, and restarting the PC. Despite that, the installation fails to recognize it, and some adapters stopped working unexpectedly. Windows 7 is running with a specific hardware setup, but the drivers aren't found. It seems the network interface might be faulty or incompatible. Consider checking the USB port, ensuring it's clean and properly seated, and trying a different USB adapter if possible. If problems persist, a fresh installation of the device drivers might be necessary.

Visit the Gigabytes website to download the necessary drivers for that board. It looks like some motherboard drivers might be missing. Consider installing the USB adapter as well. The problems you're facing could be linked to the chipset, which manages the USB ports and is likely causing the issue.

I added the Gigabyte chipset drivers from their site and only the 802.11n NIC stayed with an exclamation mark. I removed that device from the device manager and reinstalled the software. After restarting, it reported the installation failed again. I checked for hardware changes in the device manager, but the 802.11n device still showed no driver. Would you like me to test the adapter on a different machine? It might indicate a problem with the device itself. I’m skeptical about typical USB WiFi adapters performing well.

I attempted three devices, two were brand new and functioned on another machine. The computer still doesn’t recognize them and shows "802.11c NIC" in Device Manager despite installing the software from the website. Could a RegEdit fix resolve this issue?

No, I haven't tried a PCI express card. Have you considered it?

Not sure yet; it seems my motherboard might lack sufficient PCI slots. I’m planning to look for another brand if needed. I’m really struggling here and seriously thinking about getting a new PC. Modern chipsets and boards don’t work with Windows 7 anymore, right?

I can check the chipset used if you provide more details about your device or system. If you have the model number or any specific information, let me know and I’ll help identify it.

Downloading from the vendor site and the CD didn’t resolve the issue. The hardware seems to be the problem. I retrieved some chipset files from Gigabyte and they cleared most of the warning symbols, though the USB wireless adapter isn’t being detected and keeps showing as an "802.11c NIC" with the exclamation mark.
