Need assistance with a low upload rate stream?
Hello, I'm just starting out as a Twitch streamer and enjoy playing games such as osu!. I'm working with a upload speed of around 748kbps, which means I have some limitations on what I can do. I hope you can assist me. My aim is to make my stream look and sound great while keeping stability in mind. I almost forgot that I switched to OBS Multiplatform after installing Windows 10. I'll also share my computer details, as they might be useful. Thank you all! My resolution is 1440x900. Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K. RAM: 4096 MB. Motherboard: P75-D3. Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450. Storage: Kingston HyperX 120GB, Western Digital Blue 1TB. Webcam: Logitech HD Webcam C310. Headset: G930 7.1 Wireless Gaming Headset.
Choose either a capture card or a separate PC to handle encoding. Real-time encoding at 720p with that quality demands significant processing power—maybe lower to 480p if needed. The main issue remains your available bandwidth.
Really, just ignore that idea. Keep working on improving your upload until you find a better option. My upload speed is pretty consistent (though it changes a lot), but the best approach is to record offline at 720p/30fps and start a YouTube channel. Of course, you can try streaming at 320/480p, but that will already consume most of your bandwidth, making gaming frustrating due to high latency—playing with delays over 1000ms isn’t enjoyable.
The available bandwidth is limited. You should stay under 80% of your upload speed to maintain game performance. Exceeding it causes a huge increase in latency. In short, it’s not worth it. It would ruin the viewing experience and make games impossible to play. I’m not suggesting you ignore this, but streaming isn’t feasible right now.
@ Elfuego : Thanks for the tips, I guess my upload might be holding me back too. @ Blebekblebek : I need to set that aside for now and hope I can find a better ISP someday. @ DEDRICK : No problem, I was worried about this but really appreciate your advice.
