Hey there! I have several questions too. I’m fairly comfortable with computers and have put together a few builds. I built this system around four years ago, right after the 7700k came out. I usually buy unlocked CPUs because I tend to push them to their limits before moving on to new hardware. Now, unfortunately, I suspect something might be wrong—I can’t reach 5GHz and I’m stuck at 4.9GHz @1.375v, which feels too low for that frequency anyway. The maximum temperatures I see are around 65-71°C in the best case, which is acceptable after a clean build. My main concern is whether there’s something I’m missing. I can share screenshots if you’d like. If I can’t get this to overclock more, should I consider upgrading? I currently have the 7700k, an MSI Z270 carbon pro, 32GB G.Skill RAM (3200MHz DDR4), Corsair H115i v2, and a Zotac 1070. I’m thinking about getting the RTX 2080 because there are good deals nearby, and it’s supposed to be better than the 1070s. Could my CPU be limited by my motherboard? Might it cause a bottleneck with the 2080? I play games at 1440p and am not satisfied with the performance of the 1070s. Thanks ahead!

I believe improving your GPU comes first over updating your CPU. If you're planning a GPU upgrade, it's best to hold off until both AMD and Nvidia announce their new hardware soon.

I understand the situation. You're aiming for high frame rates on your setup and are considering alternatives to G-Sync. It seems you're stuck with Nvidia but curious about other options.

This option fixes voltage loss when the chip works harder. Make sure it’s active and set the clock speed to 102.5 MHz.
