Westmere-EP is my setup. I’m using one model and it’s not compatible with certain mobos. I’m sure it sounds a bit too straightforward—probably needs a W3690 or an i7. The newest BIOS only covers up to Gulftown. The 990X seems way too expensive. An i7 970 should be more affordable and still offers 3.2Ghz base and 3.46 boost. Higher-end CPUs like the 970 and above are 6 cores or more, which is a big plus. The low core count and the 2.8GHz clock speed really limit the i7 920’s performance; hexa-core boards perform much better. I haven’t found any boards that are decent enough to run an OC i7 without running into problems with VRM placement.
If the CPU supports hyperthreading, it possesses multiple cores and roughly double that number of threads. Most modern i7 processors include hyperthreading, with the 9700K being an exception. Managing cables can become quite challenging, so arranging them in a compact line up the case is often the best approach—though not flawless, it can still appear organized.
For the best performance, choose a graphics card that matches your motherboard's capabilities and the system requirements. Ensure compatibility with your CPU and power supply.
