Hi ! I want to find out if my CPU is suitable for running the GTX 970 without any performance issues. My current setup includes a GTX 770 with 2GB, GA-78M Lite S2P, an FX 6300 OC at 4.1GHz, 600MB +80 Bronze memory, and 8GB of DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz (2x4GB).

CPU priority comes first. The FX 6300 isn't suitable for driving a GTX 970. Also, the i5 6400 is chosen because the i5 6500 offers a slight boost of 200MHz without much difference.

I can manage to get the i5 6500 if it offers better value for the price. What's your budget? You'll need a CPU, motherboard, and DDR4. Don't attempt a DDR3 motherboard and stick with your existing DDR3, or you might harm the IMC in the CPU.

Alternatively, you might opt to go down to an i3. The savings could be directed toward a better motherboard or additional DDR4 memory. Keep in mind that the i3 6100 will outperform most FX CPUs, including the FX 9590.
