I don't believe it's the battery on the motherboard because it occurs even when the PC is turned on, especially on Windows. It moves back about an hour a few times each day, mainly in the mornings. I haven't identified any resonance for that yet. I think it began after I tried booting with a USB stick using this method: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-o6OK8Q9hI. I also installed two apps, "HFS+ for Windows" and "TransMac," but uninstalled them afterward. Could these actions be related to the issue?

Where or how is the PC receiving the date and time?
Review the Windows date and time configuration.
Enter "Date & time" in the search bar.
It seems one or more settings might be wrong, possibly reset during the macOS installation.
Verify the current settings.

Also verify Scheduled Tasks. It's possible someone configured it to retrieve date/time for another time zone.

I'm familiar with this window. I frequently open it throughout the day to reset and then enable the automatic time feature so it updates correctly.

What should I check in this window?
But... the time shifts even when the computer is off.
Every morning I turn on the PC, and the time is wrong before I even log into Windows.

Test a fresh CMOS cell simply to rule it out.

Thanks. Just a thought: if it's the CMOS battery, does it make sense that time shifts even when the PC is on, while using Windows?

There might be additional applications operating in the background attempting to synchronize date/time for their own purposes. It's possible that the date/time source is experiencing issues. Are the adjustments to date and time uniform? For instance, does the date shift by one day while the time changes by three hours? Is there a consistent magnitude of change? Also, does the time zone remain constant?

= = = =

What role does the CMOS battery play?
It affects various aspects including date/time accuracy.
Reference (and you can explore similar sources):
https://www.electronicshub.org/symptom-o...y-failure/
According to the article:
"If your CMOS battery is failing, your computer may encounter booting difficulties. You might also observe other anomalies such as missing drivers and incorrect date/time."
A suitable replacement should be affordable and easy to install.

Where or how is the computer now obtaining its date and time? What is the pattern of time changes: you referred to "hours back"—does that imply the system loses an hour at one point and then another later? Then manually adjusting the time or date resolves the issue again—correct? What is the overall pattern? Does the date also change? If you remove or uninstall the Mac OS, does the problem disappear? Are there any remaining traces of a Mac presence on the PC?
