Hey everyone, I'm looking for advice on setting up Win 10 from scratch. I want to minimize background CPU usage, maintain good performance, avoid bloatware, and remove preinstalled apps like the MS Store. Essentially, I'd like my Windows 10 to run with a minimal footprint—almost barebones. Any suggestions or recommendations would be really helpful! Thanks in advance, Alex.

Remove OneDrive, adjust security options to block sharing of your information, prevent internet use for uploading Windows updates to others, and further changes I’ll add later. Also, turn off ads in the Start Menu.

You're on Skylake. Remove Windows 7 and switch to NTLite. Install Windows 10 and enable built-in applications.

Turn off all unnecessary startup applications immediately, then shock yourself with the unexpected influx of unwanted software that continues to overload the system.

Unless you're using PCI-passthrough or dual booting, it's not worthwhile for heavy gaming. It has nothing to do with the OPs question.

Microsoft is a company based in the United States. It's tough to stick to a diet and maintain a lighter weight when others have said it before. You'd need to rely on some overly cautious individuals who remove all tracking data and updates. A lot of effort is required, and you might face problems with new software or games later. This is why I still use my slightly modified Windows 7.

Visit the barnaculeses channel and look up Windows 10 telemetry. Running Windows 9.5 remains a viable choice if you're willing to invest time. Additional information is available there.

Barnacules isn't perfect. While searching for methods to stop telemetry, I checked various locations and each one uncovered something new. You'd have to merge the results and aim to block about 90%.
