Hello, welcome! No worries if I'm a bit off. I'm aiming for a more compact build to save costs and would love some advice on getting it smaller. A fresh motherboard and case would be perfect—preferably keeping the optical audio in. It's been a while since I assembled this setup, so I'm unsure what options are out now or if they're still available. Current build: NZXT S340 case, Skylake processor, i7 6700K, 8GB Corsair DDR4 LPDDR4X at 3000MHz, ASRock Z170 Extreme4 Radeon RTX 480, 4GB RAM, 2x 1TB HDD, 256GB SSD (Crucial_CT275MX300SSD4), Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVGA Supernova 650W G1 Gold 80 Plus, and a Wi-Fi card from an unknown maker. Thanks for any guidance!
Thanks for your reply. My setup is mainly for work—development, data science, productivity tasks, and some media streaming. Most of my data science projects run in the cloud, so local processing isn’t a big issue. I rely heavily on Docker and virtual machines. I play fewer games now; my last purchase was Forza Horizon 3, which works well on my hardware. I don’t see myself buying more demanding titles.
You should be fine without upgrading the GPU and CPU, and a good MMO should suffice if you don’t feel the need for more performance. I’d just opt for a new case, as I’ve heard positive reviews about this one. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00M2UKGSM/?...amicomp-21
I don't have access to your specific hardware details, but newer motherboards are generally designed with backward compatibility in mind. Check the manufacturer's specifications or consult their support resources for confirmation.
