I shared my PC details and considered upgrading or purchasing an AMD 3600x CPU along with a suitable motherboard. I heard this CPU is strong, but I’m unsure if my graphics card is limiting performance. Since I can’t afford $1000+, I’m wondering if I should upgrade my RAM to DDR4 or if my current setup is fine. I’m new to this and need all the advice possible. I’m especially looking for good value for gaming and want a motherboard that’s easy to upgrade later without buying a new one, as my current ASRock Z77M isn’t working well anymore.
PCPartPicker list shows the Ryzen 5 1600 (14nm) processor priced at $119.95 on Amazon. It also lists the ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 motherboard for $64.98. Memory options include G.Skill Aegis 16 GB DDR4-3200 at $69.99. Prices on Newegg total $254.92 with shipping and taxes included.
However, since it's DDR3 while the whole Ryzen lineup uses DDR4, it won't work.
