Need assistance adjusting the speed of my old computer!

I'm just starting out on this forum.
My current setup is an older i7 system (Intel® Core i7 CPU, 870 @ 2.93GHz, running Windows 7 x64 with 64-bit support). I plan to upgrade my PC later, but right now I want to enhance its performance without risking damage to any parts—I own it for about 8-9 years.
I don’t have the time or inclination to reinstall a new operating system just yet; the amount of software installed is quite extensive. Also, I suspect my memory settings might be off in the BIOS. If you could advise me on the correct configurations, I’d really appreciate it! This might mean going back to my previous settings before attempting overclocking.
