Configure your XP VM's network setting to NAT or Bridged mode. This will allow it to connect to the same networks as your host operating system.

You have to go into the settings for your VM and make sure "Adapter 1" is enabled and set to either Bridged or NAT under Network. I just grabbed this screenshot from Google Images, the interface may look a little different but should be pretty much the same. Here's a video tutorial I found that explains it: (Not an endorsement of this YouTube channel.)
