Good morning everyone!!! I hope everything is fine with you all.
I’m working with the following components:
Fractal torrent rgb e-atx case
Fractal north rgb adapter
Asus hero Maximus 8 motherboard
I7-6700k chip
Thermalright phantom spirit 120 cooler
Evga 850 watt gold psu
16g of RAM (I’m not sure what kind)
3060 12g
Originally, I built this system a few years ago using a 980ti and captain genome. After some time, the 980ti stopped working, and then prices for graphics cards rose sharply, so I put the system away for a while until things stabilized. Now I’m replacing parts and trying to decide what processor upgrade to make. I’m not sure if I should change the motherboard or the processor.
The Fractal north case I have has advanced front USB ports that don’t fit the Asus hero Maximus viii, which was a bit of an issue.
I really appreciate your help in suggesting the best processor and motherboard options for my needs.
I plan to use this setup mainly for *whisper* video games *whisper*. I might also experiment with game design, but my main focus is on future-proofing for gaming.
Looking forward to your advice!!!

What is your budget for these upgrades? The upgrade suggestions for $200 and $1000 look quite different! And do you have an EVGA Gold-rated 850W model available? I noticed there are 13 PSUs from EVGA that fit those specs, with a mix of good and top-tier options. You don’t have to worry about using it for video games—most mid-to-high-end PCs used for gaming are what you’ll find here. People mostly play GTA V rather than mathematical modeling, though I do both on my main rig.

Hello, thanks for the reply and the confirmation about video games. I'm using an evga supernova 850 watt g2 with part number 220-g2-0850. I plan to upgrade my graphics card in the future, though not soon. To be honest, my budget is around 1000 at the higher end. But if you were like… Mr. Curses, this will future-proof me for a long time and let me afford more upgrades later.

I suddenly feel the urge to tackle 3d rendering or mathematical modeling, though I'm just here for building a base in Kenshi 🧐

It might be worthwhile to hold off and consider the 14700k option with the additional E cores.

Thank you for your understanding. I'm eager for the new chips because I'm struggling with stuttering while playing Starfield. Still, it's manageable.
