Hi, I’m looking to purchase my first mechanical keyboard. I play games often, mainly FPS titles such as BF, COD, and Far Cry, as well as adventure games like Tomb Raider and Uncharted. During my research, I noticed various switch types—red, blue, etc.—based on their sound characteristics. I also came across names like Cherry, TTC, Gateron, and others, but I’m unsure which one to choose. I watched some videos, but I’d appreciate insights from real users or experts.
While browsing, I discovered the Keychron keyboard, which looks impressive. It’s priced around $250 USD. Although it’s quite expensive, I’m open to spending for it. What are your thoughts? Do you have any recommendations that could assist me in selecting a better keyboard overall?

I have a Keychron Q1v2 and I really liked it, so I also got one for my family members with custom keycaps. It's hard to go wrong with these, no matter which keyboard you choose from Keychron. My suggestion would be to begin with an entry-level keyboard. The model you mentioned is a special edition and that explains the high price. You might be able to start in the mechanical keyboard market with a $50 budget and then progress over time.
For practicality, don't rush to buy a luxury car like a Lamborghini right after getting your driver's license—choose something more manageable like a Corolla first and learn how to handle it.

I don’t think it’s necessary to invest in a $250 keyboard just to try it out. My first mechanical keyboard was the Corsair Vengeance K65 Compact with Cherry MX red switches, purchased for $50 in 2021. After three years of use, I’ve replaced it with the Keychron model and plan to customize the K65 using Tangerine switches (the 62g and 67g models). I’m confident you can locate a reasonably affordable, modifiable mechanical keyboard and tailor it to your needs.
