Need advice following a RAM failure?
Hi, thanks for your message. I'm experiencing a BD error on my Rampage V Extreme. It seems one of the Ripjaws 4 F4-3000C15Q-16GRR units stopped working. Currently, I have 8GB left instead of the 16GB I had before. This limits me from running games and browsers simultaneously. I'm planning to upgrade my PC in about 2 to 3 years, but I'm unsure which option is best for the future. If I decide to buy a new 32GB drive, what would be the most reliable choice? I was considering a 7700x but am not sure if it's the best option right now.
Just purchased another set of 2x8 or 2x16 in 3200c16 or 3600c18. Bdies work but they're quite expensive and add a lot to the IMC load. Those heatspreader styles are also overpriced. If you're serious about RAM tuning, look for kits like the Klevv 3200/3600 2x8 or Crucial Ballistix 3200 2x16. The former should be based on Hynix, the latter on Micron 16Gbit Rev B. The real focus should be on how well the IMC and motherboard handle speeds above 5000 DDR4. A lower-speed option could be a Samsung M378A1G43EB1 2x8 or 4x8 for dual or quad RAM. These parts have decent tuning potential, good sound quality, and solid voltage scaling. However, they're not ideal for high-end builds since 16GB is already dual-rank and 32GB needs a quad setup. They’re mostly just 2133 green PCBs. You can easily overclock to 3800/4000, and DDR4 is now very affordable—don’t stress too much about the price. 32GB units are around $50 now, and 16GB kits or used boards are even cheaper.
