I recently moved from a 1070 to a 3070 and observed that benchmarks focusing solely on the GPU still show only slight improvement over the average for a 3070, but when CPU performance is included, the difference becomes noticeable. My current processor is an i7 9800x. I have a compact case, which can overheat significantly—reaching up to 90°C during intense use. Additionally, it draws a high power draw of around 150W under heavy load. On top of that, it consumes a lot of energy for its capabilities. I’m now searching for a CPU that works well with the RTX 3070 and uses less power. I’m considering an AMD 5000 series chip, though I’m unsure if it would be a solid upgrade. Is the 5600x sufficient? Or should I aim for something like the 5800X3D? I’m open to spending up to 400–500 euros on the CPU but not much on a motherboard. I’m unfamiliar with motherboards and want to know what’s worth it. Are there better performance gains or just extra features I might not need? Any advice on choosing a CPU and motherboard would be appreciated.
