I have a Google router and require a range extender. These routers don't support WPS, so wireless would be the better option.

Are there any wired solutions? APs work much better and I wouldn’t suggest a range extender with them. Ubiquiti offers some excellent options.

We don't really need it in the upper floor, and my mom isn't keen on drilling holes.

Tell your mom she’s likely to experience poor internet and many connectivity problems. Installing a Cat5e cable run and adding an outlet box to the wall is quite straightforward.

If you don't want assistance with the current settings, please move your unhelpful remark elsewhere.

Range extenders reduce your internet speed significantly. They must be placed in locations with strong router signals. Their effectiveness is limited. Which Google router model are you using?

It could be a recommendation. I'm unsure if powerline functions across various breakers.

It's always a good idea, and if not, you might want to consider returning it. Just a note on Wi-Fi extenders—they're really bad, but they're not trying to be harsh.
