I have an HP Compaq 8100 cmt with 6GB RAM (2GB failed). I planned to upgrade to 14GB and got 8GB 1600MHz GEIL memory. The store said it would work at 1333MHz, but the technician insisted it should function at lower frequencies. I installed just one module and it didn’t work even when only that one was in the PC. Should I get HP RAM or can I use Kingston or Crucial? My motherboard is a Hewlett Packard 304GB.

It should function at lower frequencies, though occasionally the chip might not fit the motherboard because of compatibility issues. If this happened to you, take the PC to a store and have the technician install it, ensuring you can replace it if needed.
