Hello everyone,
I recently discovered my old laptop and decided to play League of Legends on it because I’m not at home and am in another country.
The model is an MSI GE60 2OE.
- CPU: I7-4710MQ
- GPU: Nvidia 765M
Although it’s an older machine, I believe it can handle LoL with acceptable frame rates. However, when under heavy use, the laptop switches between AC and battery power. I suspect this is due to my current 19v, 4,74A (90W) adapter, which seems insufficient for the device and isn’t an original part.
I’ve started looking for a better adapter and found several affordable options that provide 150-180W.
Here’s a link to one that might interest you:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/306380385437
It claims 180W, uses 19v and 9.23A with the same connector polarity, but the picture shows 19.5V.
Could this voltage be an issue? Would you recommend any budget-friendly adapters I could consider? I don’t want to risk damaging my laptop or wasting electricity unnecessarily.
Thanks in advance for your help!

You can always attempt the 19.5v setting. Make sure to monitor the battery for any signs of swelling or overheating. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it.

Hello dear Lutfij!
I looked into it and found a couple of problems:
- The item isn't available in Germany
- The output is 120W, but my PC uses 140W at full load, which might still be too low. That's why I prefer safer options like 150W or 180W.
Thanks for your reply! I really appreciate it!

Hey, the laptop comes with a 120 Watt adapter that I haven't used since I bought the used model. The second part, I understand my CPU is drawing about 47-50W and my GPU is at 75W, which already adds up to 122 Watts when excluding RAM, mainboard, SSD, etc. (I also have two DDR3 modules that consume around 5-6 Watts). That's why I'm looking for a bit more headroom during full load.

Are you concerned about harming your laptop by using higher voltage adapters?

The device will only display the required wattage, regardless of the power supply's capacity.

I understand your worry. The original adapter's voltage is 19V, but many chargers with GE60 listed as compatible show 19.5V. I'm concerned that the extra 0.5V might affect performance. Please let me know if you need further clarification.
