I'm looking for a machine for your son that doesn't involve playing Roblox or even HORIHO. You planned to swap his 14900k / 6800xt setup with these components... memory - https://www.newegg.com/corsair-32gb-ddr4...6820236541... CPU - https://www.newegg.com/intel-celeron-g39...6819117748... hard drive - https://www.newegg.com/kingspec-512gb/p/0D9-000D-00149... The goal is to have it surf the web and run Microsoft Office. Will this setup be fast enough for basic tasks without feeling too slow?

Choose a lightweight Linux distribution such as Xubuntu or Lubuntu, and keep it simple.

You might always obtain a RISC-V based system and let him access online Microsoft Office, which would be nearly impossible to defeat. However, the best approach is to create a user account with restricted privileges, as others have pointed out.

This won’t fix poor parenting. It’s better to discuss with him instead of causing trouble for his computer.

Can't play games on PC, but can still enjoy them on my phone. It seems unnecessary to invest more just for a no-games, research-only setup. Consider creating a basic user account like others recommend. Alternatively, detach the GPU and use the built-in CPU graphics—though these aren’t ideal for gaming. For the most extreme solution, replace the SSD with an HDD and restrict the CPU’s usable cores via BIOS settings.

Open the BIOS settings and adjust the CPU power limit to 2 watts.

Get him a used 8th gen laptop, such as an HP ProBook with an i5. This way, your son can use the computer only in a public area and nowhere else. He can still play Hoi4 and Roblox on that device. To prevent him from playing Roblox, restrict access to a time when the system can’t run 11 or browse the internet. Simply transfer his PC to a new account with no installations allowed, and secure the admin password so only you know it. This solution is straightforward and keeps games off the machine. Place the device in a living room or another spot where you can easily supervise it.

Stopping kids from using Roblox is fine, yet banning HoI is really wrong! 🤔 I’ve picked up a lot of history from playing EU and the TW series instead of in class!

I attribute my skill in juggling complex tasks in top-tier WoW arenas to playing high-end top 1% games without any extra tools, which matches the demands of my new role.
