Need a BF code for ROG Rampage 5 with a Memok trigger?
Need a BF code for ROG Rampage 5 with a Memok trigger?
Hi, thanks for taking the time. MB: Rog Rampage V Extrame RAM DDR4-3600 CL18-22-22-42 1.35V 32GB (2x16GB). Needed new RAM because the previous one stopped working. I tried several sticks and discovered one wouldn’t appear in BIOS. After some troubleshooting, a BD and BF code appeared, suggesting a memory problem. MemoK worked, but I must restart the PC each time. I understand the RAM isn’t listed in my motherboard’s QVL, though the seller said it should auto-adjust speed to match the system. I’m using everything at the default settings on MB and cleared CMOS. Could a BIOS update help? RAMPAGE V EXTREME BIOS 3504 mentions DRAM compatibility on Asus support site, but I’m hesitant to change without checking first.
BIOS updates are often safe and usually don’t cause issues. With two available, you can keep a backup. Have you tried changing the BIOS settings to see if the second one is active? On my machine it seemed completely blank at first. If that’s the case, boot with the working version, update it while powered on, and flash the new one. This would replace the old blank one with the latest version while keeping your original safe. You might not be able to use XMP settings, so you may need to stick to JEDEC clocks or manually tune it. CPUs from that time weren’t built for such high speeds. What model CPU are you using?
I don’t understand how to change the BIOS settings, and I’m unsure about updating it since I’ve never done it before. I heard it might damage the motherboard if done wrong. Should I always use the newest BIOS or just the one mentioned for DRAM compatibility? Also, Asus BIOS no longer has a tool to rename the BIOS file, which adds extra effort and risk.
A common way of going about it is "if things work leave as is, if not update to latest". Latest being many years old already given the age of the mobo. There's a physical button on the mobo. On this one the chips are also on sockets so easy to take out and flash externally if needed. Renamers are for the CPU-less BIOS flash function, that didn't exist back then. All you need is to put the file on a FAT32-formatted flash drive, boot into BIOS, go to Q-Flash and select it.
Updating to version 3902 BIOS caused more issues before I could consistently access Windows after pressing Memok. It behaves like BF code—press Memok, then enter safe mode, exit it, and the system starts working properly. Now it reaches the Windows screen smoothly. I’m grateful and checking how things progress over the next few days. Thanks! Edited June 25, 2023 by AlfredLei
