I experienced random restarts and other problems with my Intel NUC that came with a Pro license. I switched it to a new Asus mini PC running Windows 10 Home 2004. The Media PC needs to boot without a password since I have a bot running continuously, and it should start after a power outage. I require Pro for mapping drives, but because it's a media PC without a Windows account password, mapping fails. I need Pro to adjust Group Policy settings, which aren't available in Home. The cost of Pro seems excessive for this situation. Is there a workaround? I've already contacted Microsoft, who didn’t know how to resolve the issue.

The Pro key is stored inside the BIOS of the NUC, which means it might be locked there permanently.

It seems like the device is tied to an OEM key, which means it’s technically bound to that specific NUC. Once I upgraded my CPU and motherboard, the original setup stopped working, so I unlocked the OS via a phone call. The person I spoke to just asked for the serial number and released the lock. You might find Windows 10 Pro for $28 on G2A, but that site has some questionable practices—some sellers might steal card info, though it shouldn’t impact the key you purchase. There’s also a Reddit community called Microsoft Software Exchange that offers Windows 10 Pro for $45, which feels more trustworthy.

It's an OEM key, but I'm not sure what it was named. I'm avoiding using a key I don't own, so I'll look at the alternative choice. Thanks!

In theory its tied, but often they will work on other machines. I've used quite a few Windows 7 keys from scrapped PC's to activate Win10Pro over the years. Theres always ebay too, keys on there are somewhat grey-market, but again, they work. If MS wanted to shut them down they would. The fact they dont tells me enough.
