I recently played Age of Mythology on Steam just for a short session and encountered an error stating the game failed to launch. I received the launcher interface, a brief splash screen, but then the process stopped. I turned off Steam Cloud to avoid any unexpected settings from another machine, such as attempting to run at 4K on a low-powered laptop. I reinstalled the launcher and still faced issues. I set the compatibility options to run with administrator privileges in both Windows 7 and 8 versions, but it didn’t work. I tested on all my PCs (all using Windows 10 Pro) and even on my girlfriend’s ThinkPad running Windows 10 Pro, but nothing functioned. I ran AoM before on Windows 10 a few months ago, so it might not be a complete compatibility problem, but now it doesn’t work on any Windows 10 system I own. A quick search on the web didn’t reveal any recent complaints, and there were no posts on Steam forums. What could be causing this? Is it related to a recent Windows 10 update? Are others experiencing the same issue?

I mainly enjoy AoEHD (AoC), but I also use AoM and RoN on Steam. I plan to install and play it (including W10 Pro as well), and I'll check back later. EDIT: At the time I had the game installed and it was functioning properly.

I should note that other SkyBox Labs titles work well too—AoE HD and RoN on Steam are both active. I've tested various systems. The Ivy Bridge mobile i5-3427U with HD4000, Haswell desktop i7-4790 with GTX 1080, Haswell desktop i3-4130T with RX 460, Haswell desktop Pentium G3258 with HD 7750, and Haswell desktop i7-4770T with HD4600 all run Windows 10 Pro on the 10586 build. That’s the only thing I can identify as a shared factor.
